There’s a lot of meaning for me behind my company’s name and my skeleton key necklace. Since the company is a kind of tribute for my dad, I knew I had to name it accordingly. My dad’s Native American heritage (however small it was) was something he was very proud of and our family tree was something we spoke of often so naturally I incorporated feather for my dad’s great, great (great, great, great….) grandfather- Chief Red Feather. And brass, because well, I was inspired by a key. 😉

I touched on what skeleton keys mean to me in my first post but just to sum it up- they are intended to open many different locks, metaphorical ones in this case. By hand stamping inspiring words or words you’d like to invite into your life, the skeleton key acts as a reminder to manifest whatever you’re intending to attract. One idea a feather can symbolize is spiritual ascension to a higher plane and feathers were worn by Native American Chiefs. My interpretation of this is and how it applies to my mission for my company is to remind and inspire people to lift themselves up as well as others and raise themselves to a place of kindness and love for oneself and for others. I incorporated metal wire wrapping because it feels tribal to me- again part of the homage to my dad and Chief Red Feather.

I’ll keep pushing Feathers & Brass to spread love and kindness. I can only hope it inspires others to do the same and believe in themselves to find something that makes them feel good and know that they can make a difference, however small it might feel. Every single necklace I create is so important to me and so much love is poured into each individual and unique piece. I hope they are just important to those who wear them.<3
